This line was originally built by the El Paso & Southwestern Railroad, and then became part of the SP. It served extensive mining operations around Bisbee owned by the Phelps-Dodge Corporation. This area was also served by the Arizona & South Eastern, which became a part of the EP&S and the SP. The most recent abandonments in this area was apparently in the mid 1980s.
The end of the line N of Corta. Bisbee, both old and new, and an extensive lead and zinc mining area lie ahead. This ROW should last for a long time in the desert. Photo courtesy of Dean Carroll.
