An abandoned trestle over a Mississippi "brake". This late 1940s abandonment on the former IC from Grenada Junction (just N of Greenwood) to Grenada is still in good shape. (Photo by Tom Lucas) |

This line was originally part of the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad (YMV). The YMV was owned by the Illinois Central and was incorporated in 1882 to build a line westward from Jackson, MS. The line was probably built in the 1890s, and went through the following towns: Whaley, Avalon, Leflore, Parsons, Holcomb, Dubard and into Grenada. Illinois Central merged the YMV in 1945 and 1946, and then in 1947 abandoned this line. The rails were removed in 1949. |
